by Ron NicolDirected by Maureen DaviesWednesday 15th September 2010 at 8pm in Room OnePlaying dates 18th December to 1st January The Snow Queen is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved winter tale about a boy bewitched by the evil Snow Queen and taken to live in her ice palace and the girl who would not give up her search until she found him.
Kai and Gerda are the best of friends, but tragedy strikes when Kai's eye and heart are pierced with shards of glass from the Snow Queens magic mirror, which changes Kai from a sweet, loving boy into someone really nasty. The evil Snow Queen has put Kai under her spell and spirits him away to her frozen palace in the far north. Gerda is determined to rescue Kai and sets off on a journey to find him.
Along the way she encounters a sly enchantress, a talking crow, a prince and princess, a band of robbers and a robber girl, talking reindeer, a woman from Lapland and a woman from Finland who all help her. She eventually finds Kai and her warm tears melt Kai's heart and his own tears wash away the glass from his eye. They flee the Snow Queen and return home.
