Archives - Forty Years On
by Alan BennettDirected by David ShawSaturday 29th November – Saturday 6th December 1975 in the AuditoriumMr. Franklin, a ‘progressive’ schoolmaster, is for the first time producing the traditional school play at Albion House, a public school for boys. He has chosen as his theme ‘potted’ history from the period of World War I. It is the last day of term and also the day of the Headmaster’s retirement. The comedy arises from the nature of Franklin’s historical views and the conflict between him and the Headmaster. ‘A wry, irreverent and often wildly hilarious kind of Cavalcade in reverse.’ |
