About the Barn Theatre Youth Groups

Barn Senior Youth Group (15—21 years)

The Barn Theatre aims to provide an opportunity for young people aged from 15—21 to have some theatre training and gain experience in performance, backstage work and theatre practices and etiquette. Members are expected to attend weekly drama workshop/training sessions on Mondays during term time 7.45pm — 10pm. The sessions will include improvisation, play readings, characterisation and group work. In addition, the group may be preparing a main stage presentation or for a show to be entered into the Welwyn Garden City Youth Drama Festival.

For the more able and experienced, there may also be an opportunity to work on the season’s main theatre productions. Any young people interested in working hard at stage performances or backstage theatre work are always most welcome. The Senior Youth Group Leader is Trevor Wallace.

Barn Junior Youth Theatre (11—14 years)

We have two Junior Youth groups:

  • The younger group, for ages 11 to 12, meets on Fridays 5.30pm — 7.30pm and its leader is Lara Silverstone.
  • The older group, for ages 13 to 14, meets on Mondays 5.30pm — 7.30pm and its leader is Christina Martin.
The aim of both groups is to help young people learn stage basic stage techniques, including voice production, characterisation, comic timing, physical theatre and improvisation. The group usually enters a production in the Welwyn Garden City Youth Drama Festival and performs in one main stage production. Smaller-scale performances also take place in our studio.
