This is a regular monthly opportunity for any member to come along and have an unrehearsed read through a play.

This month’s play – The Ferryman

We’re delighted the library have responded to a request to buy a set of Jez Butterworth’s play The Ferryman, now wowing audiences in the West End. It had its world premiere at the Royal Court Theatre in April 2017, directed by Sam Mendes. It was the fastest-selling play in Royal Court Theatre history.

This is a special play, one that sticks in the mind. I remember the insights it provided into the human consequences of the Troubles in Ireland, the brilliant characterisation and the impact of one particular mesmerising piece of storytelling.

There are lots of parts – and a chance to brush up your Irish accents – so if you haven’t been to a reading before, or would just like to listen, you’re very welcome.

Timings

Arrive at 9.30am for a 9.45am start. The reading will run until around 12.15pm with a break for coffee, biscuits and chat.

No need to book, and admission is free of charge.
