This is a regular monthly opportunity for any member to come along and have an unrehearsed read through a play.
This month’s play – Love in Idleness
This version of Terence Rattigan’s classic played at the Menier Chocolate Factory during 2017. Razor-sharp writing, pithily comic, set in wartime London, with plenty of commentary on the social and political differences of the day. Olivia, a vivacious widow, is in love with Sir John Fletcher, a key member of Churchill’s war cabinet, who is unable to divorce. Enter her left-wing teenage son, returning from safety in Canada, who loathes the lover’s politics. She has to choose between them. But who will win in the end?
Arrive at 9.30am for a 9.45am start. The reading will run until around 12.15pm with a break for coffee, biscuits and chat.
