Imagine Banksy’s street art is real. What does she really see and how does she feel about it? A tale of hope and rainbows in a world in dire need of both.
3rd Carriage
Six passengers sit side by side on a tube train under London. They are strangers. Custom dictates they ignore eachother until they leave, but what connections are they missing out on? Whilst you’re kept busy as the lead in your own special play, it’s worth remembering that everyone you see feels the same way. Through eleven new songs, this one act musical explores the inner voices of a group of passengers on an ordinary commute, it reminds us that we aren’t so very different from each other if only we take a chance and connect.

These two shows were part of last season’s Short and Sweet festival. Lou’s whimsical mime piece imagines the girl in Banksy’s iconic street art coming to life, and George’s beautiful musical follows a selection of disparate characters on their daily commute. George has now significantly developed her musical and we’ll stage this alongside a reworked version of Lou’s mime. The setting for both pieces will be the same Underground station and we hope that the Girl might also appear in Third Carriage. Each audition will include solo singing and group work. These pieces are ‘organic’ and we’re looking for bold, playful actors. The audition structure will be:
7.30pm – 8.15pm approx: Girl, Narrator and Passengers 1 and 2 (individual auditions plus shared session for Girl and Narrator – see below).
8.15pm – 8.45pm approx: Group audition (ALL characters and Girl)
8.45pm approx: Passengers 3, 4, 5 and 6
Third Carriage from the End
Passenger 1: A woman (30s): lonely, organised, slightly uptight.
Audition song: Wish you were here
Passenger 2: A woman (30s): lonely, slightly disorganised, laid-back.
Audition song: Wish you were here
Passenger 3: A person (20s): trendy, on-point.
Audition song: Swipe left
Passenger 4: A man (60s): quiet, resolute.
Audition song: Until
Passenger 5: A woman (50s): neat, quiet.
Audition song: Empty nest
Passenger 6: A woman (30s): harassed, exhausted.
Audition song: Spaghetti hoops
Narrator: Any of these songs plus group audition with the Girl (see below).
The Girl dances and interacts with the audience. A very short movement / dance piece would be great for audition. In terms of style – contemporary or ballet? We will also do a group audition along with those auditioning for the Narrator.

Whilst these plays don’t have any specific diversity message within their narrative, we will have an open approach to casting. Although some roles lend themselves to gender and age specificity, we will use artistic judgement to ensure the most diverse cast possible.
