About Our Youth Groups
The Barn Theatre is home to an incredible community and provides endless opportunities on stage and off stage. The Barn Youth is the perfect introduction to this theatrical hub, with many of our members forming life-long connections with the theatre as a result.
We have a total of five youth groups. Four junior groups; Owlets, Pigwidgen, Hedwig and Errol and one senior group Hermes – their details can be seen below.
The Youth Theatre provides an opportunity for young people to have some theatre training and gain experience in performance, backstage work, and theatre practices and etiquette.
Members are expected to attend weekly drama workshops/training sessions. The sessions will include improvisation, play readings, characterisation, and group work. In addition, the Youth Theatre may be preparing a Barn main-stage presentation or for a show to be entered into the Welwyn Garden City Youth Drama Festival.
We are lucky to have a wonderful team of leaders running our group sessions and their hard work and dedication can not be overstated. We thank them all wholeheartedly, past and present, for the contribution and difference they have made to literally hundreds of young people.
Alumni
We have a huge number of ex-youth theatre members who have gone on to work professionally in the entertainment industry. So many of these ex-members, and some current ones too, that now work as back-stage technicians and as actors and writers alike, have benefitted enormously from the foundations set in their early years, learning and enjoying the Barn Youth Theatre activities.

Barn Youth membership confers full membership of the Barn Theatre.
The Barn Youth sessions are predominantly drama-centred activities as opposed to musical theatre.
Meet the Tutoring Team
The Barn Youth is the perfect introduction to the world of theatre. As a former Barn Youth member I truly believe that children will grow in confidence and imagination whilst learning all about the skills required to be onstage. It is a safe space to have fun and allow the youth members to explore their creativity whilst meeting new friends.
Kate Humbles
Owlets Group Leader
Barn Youth provides a safe and playful space for it's members to learn new skills, gain confidence, improve techniques as a performer, and to make friends. It's a particular joy teaching the younger groups, seeing how much they grow in confidence and how much fun they have learning new skills and challenging themselves.

How to Join
* denotes required fields.
You can be a ‘youth’ member of the Barn Theatre without attending a Barn Youth Group.
Youth Membership entitles you to audition for any Barn Theatre show throughout the year and provides the opportunity to get involved backstage too should you wish to, but of course, you do not have to pay for, or attend, the weekly group sessions.
