FROM THE BARN THEATRE ARCHIVE

Heartbreak House

by Bernard Shaw
Directed by Winifred Butler
3rd – 10th December 1977

Shaw’s Chekhovian vision of post-first-world-war England. A witty foreboding of the destruction of civilisation through the decadence of the leisured class and the worship of false standards.

Captain Shotover’s two formidable daughters, their old nurse and a poor but beautiful young visitor manage to rout father, husband, lover, wealthy magnate and burglar, with sparkling Shavian repartee.
