The plot of this, the author’s first play, was inspired by a notorious Scottish court case. As in so much of her later work she explores an aspect of evil and its consequences. A malicious child sets in train a falsehood which destroys the lives of two innocent adults and causes dismay and suffering to others. It is a taut, vividly written drama which peoples the stage with a variety of sharply-deliniated characters locked in an agonising situation; a theatrical experience which should not be missed.
