This play was first performed in 1941 and included Fay Compton, Kay Hammond and Margaret Rutherford in the cast.
Charles, an author, whose first wife Elvira has been dead for seven years, is collecting material for his new book and invites Madame Arcati, a local medium, to conduct a seance at his home. She accidentally ‘brings back’ Elvira, who re-inhabits the house, making life exceedingly difficult for Charles in his second marriage to Ruth, especially as Elvira is audible and visible only to Charles! Madame Arcati battles to exorcise Elvira with hilarious results.
This is Coward at his sparkling best.
