FROM THE BARN THEATRE ARCHIVE

My Mother Said I Never Should

by Charlotte Keatley
Directed by David Thompson
21st – 29th October 1994

This poignant and intriguing play is about four women from four generations of the same family, living in Manchester, Oldham and London. Over a span of time, from the turn of the century to the present day, we gain insights into their feelings and experiences.

Their appealing story is about growing up, growing old and coming to terms with what life brings. Set in ‘a magic place where things can happen’, the play’s themes are timeless but contemporary. The action and characters speak for themselves and provide totally engrossing theatre, compassionate and very true to life.
