Shattered Windscreen Theatre Company’s summer 2010 touring production of The Revenger’s Tragedy is to be performed at the Barn Theatre on Sunday 18th July at 8 pm.
A favourite genre of the company, The Revenger’s Tragedy, long attributed to Cyril Tourneur but more recently to Thomas Middleton, verges on the absurd, frequently crossing the line between black comedy and high drama.
The play was, apparently, first produced in 1606 and printed anonymously in the following year. The Revenger’s Tragedy is marked by the earthy – even obscene – style, irreverent tone and grotesque subject matter that typifies Middleton’s comedies. Indeed, in recent years this play has been seen almost as a spoof – a comedic take on the genre.
Tickets cost £9 from Angela & Peter Reiss, 27 Fordwich Hill, Hertford, SG14 2BG. Please call 01992 558594 (not after 10 pm, please!) or email [email protected]
