The Accrington Pals

By Peter Whelan
Directed by Yvana Reeves
28th March – 5th April 2014

A chronicle of the terrible waste of war – powerful, funny, intimate and moving

Special thanks to: Khaki Devil Ltd (costume and props), Stage Two Lighting, Keith Thompson and Jack Wood (military), Chris Janes (fights), The Tavern, Old Welwyn (London E1 fruit stall, scales and baskets)

As a small town in Lancashire sends a battalion of ‘pals’ to fight in the Battle of the Somme, the womenfolk are left behind to hold the fort. Some flourish briefly as they find a measure of independence amid the anxiety, but their own hideous battles begin when the terrible news comes home.
