A family play about love and loss.
At a single viewing, it is impossible to pin this beautifully elusive play down… I can’t pretend to have got all aspects of this slippery, poetic play, … what I can say for certain is that Zeller’s play penetrates the memory long after one has left the theatre.
This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd.
The Height of the Storm is set in a French country house, not far from Paris, the home of an elderly famous writer, called André, and his wife Madeleine. Their two daughters are visiting, and we hear there’s been a recent funeral, though it’s not clear who’s died. After a while it begins to appear that it must have been either André or Madeleine, except that both of them are on stage for a large part of the play, often speaking at some length, although at different times one or other of them doesn’t seem to have been heard by the rest… This might sound rather surreal, but at the same time you’re completely convinced of the reality of what’s happening.

Special thanks to James Rowles for his help in numerous ways.

It puzzles the brain while touching the heart… a deeply moving study of love, loss and the unbearable pain of absence.
A beautiful and hugely important piece that showcases one of the saddest (and scariest) aspects of the human condition.
