Matt Ward welcomes guests back to Jazz at the Barn, featuring the talented jazz accordionist Karen Street and her quartet, L’Esprit du Jazz. Karen’s quartet will perform music inspired by French swing, Latin, and tango, alongside original compositions and jazz standards.
Karen Street began playing the accordion at the age of seven. After completing her studies, she moved to London and embarked on a busy freelance career spanning classical, contemporary, and jazz genres. Her jazz credits include collaborations with Mike Westbrook, Tim Garland, Phil Robson, Martin Taylor’s ‘Spirit of Django’ with Guy Barker’s jazz orchestra, Tina May, Nikki Iles, and Stan Sulzmann.
Charlie Pyne is a London-based bassist and singer who has worked with the Ilario Ferrari Trio, Down for the Count Swing Orchestra, Issie Barratt’s Interchange, and Yazz Ahmed’s ‘Polyhymnia’. She also leads her own project, the Charlie Pyne Quartet, which released its debut album ‘Dancing Shadows’ in 2019.
Sam Dunn is a jazz guitarist who has performed with notable musicians such as Alan Barnes, Dave Newton, Michael Garrick, and Al Wood. His recent gigs include touring Australia with US Grammy-nominated pianist and singer Judy Carmichael, the UK with Jon Shenoy’s ‘Draw by Four’, and performing with his own band, ‘Perpetual Motion Machine’.
Katie Patterson is a Canadian-born drummer and educator. She has performed as both a side musician and bandleader at venues including Wembley SSE Arena, Ronnie Scott’s, Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Roundhouse, Love Supreme Festival, and the Tuscia in Jazz Festival, where she received the ‘Best New Talent’ award.
