FROM THE BARN THEATRE ARCHIVE

Forty Years On

by Alan Bennett
Directed by David Shaw
29th November – 6th December 1975

Mr. Franklin, a ‘progressive’ schoolmaster, is for the first time producing the traditional school play at Albion House, a public school for boys. He has chosen as his theme ‘potted’ history from the period of World War I. It is the last day of term and also the day of the Headmaster’s retirement. The comedy arises from the nature of Franklin’s historical views and the conflict between him and the Headmaster.

‘A wry, irreverent and often wildly hilarious kind of Cavalcade in reverse.’
