FROM THE BARN THEATRE ARCHIVE

Born in the Gardens

by Peter Nichols
Directed by George Blee
Assistant Director David Martin
22nd – 29th October 1988
Coffin loaned by Burgess & Sons of Hatfield

An eccentric, fantasising old lady, an antiquarian bookseller and trad jazz enthusiast, an ineffectual Labour MP, and a dissatisfied expatriate come together in a dilapidated mock-Tudor Victorian house for a funeral. What ensues is a hilarious but thought-provoking play that deals with many of today’s topical issues in a style that is Peter Nichols’ own.
