Brighton Beach Memoirs was a sell-out success when it played at the National Theatre a few years ago. The play is semi-autobiographical and tells the story of a week in the life of a second-generation Jewish family in Brooklyn, New York, in 1937 as seen through the eyes of 16-year-old Eugene.
As one would expect from Neil Simon, all the characters and situations are drawn from life and the comedy is very much to the fore.
