Twelfth Night

By William Shakespeare
Directed by Dick Breeze
Assistant Director Kevin Dinnin
29th April – 7th May 2011

Why this is very midsummer madness!

Shakespeare’s classic comedy of romance, mischief, love, entanglement, wild infatuation and deception.

Shipwrecked on a stormy night in Illyria, the beautiful young Viola disguises herself as a man to protect her honour, and manages to find employment as a page in the court of the lovesick Duke Orsino. But just as Viola finds herself falling for the Duke, Olivia, whom Orsino was pursuing, finds herself falling for the disguised Viola! Meanwhile, the chaos deepens when servant Maria and her drunken friend Sir Toby Belch decide to seek revenge against the prim and proper servant Malvolio.

RSC Open Stages

This production has been accepted as part of Royal Shakespeare Company Open Stages, a new project that aims to embrace, develop and celebrate amateur theatre, re-forging the bond with the world of professional theatre.

Over 2011/2012 the RSC, in partnership with a number of regional theatres and amateur theatre associations, is running a national programme of skills sharing events and showcases, with amateur societies from across the UK invited to produce their own RSC branded Shakespeare themed production.
