Mrs Kay’s ‘progress class’ of under-privileged, illiterate, inner-city schoolchildren go on a trip, their first real day out.
What follows is a celebration of the joys and agonies of growing up, being footloose, 14 and free from school, as the children boisterously rampage through every location, as well as a sharp pointer to the depressing present and empty future, for a day out is as much as these no-hopers can expect.
This musical play evokes the deprivation and lack of opportunity which can lead to poor educational and employment possibilities, without detracting from the unstoppable spirit of young people.
