FROM THE BARN THEATRE ARCHIVE

Kindertransport

By Diane Samuels
Directed by Siobhán Hill Elam
Assistant Director Sarah Doyle-Smith
26th April – 4th May 2019

Home is inside you. Inside me and you. It is not a place.

Evelyn and Faith, mother and daughter, spend some time together preparing for Faith to leave home. As they do so, something is discovered that blows the lid off everything Faith has ever known about her mother and forces them both to confront the difficulties in their relationship. The scene shifts in time and place as Evelyn’s history is revealed and as the story unfolds, we’re shown the full background to the painful decisions that have been made, not just by Evelyn, but by all those close to her. The dynamic of the mother and daughter relationship is beautifully observed.
